We know things come up, however, for scheduling purposes it is absolutely crucial to let the Health Department know if you cannot make it to your scheduled vaccine appointment. Here’s why:
- The Moderna vaccine comes with 10 doses in a vial. When the vial is punctured, all 10 doses must be used in 6 hours.
- The Johnson and Johnson vaccine comes with 5 doses in a vial. It also must be used within 6 hours after the vial is punctured.
Those scheduled to receive a first dose – If you cannot make it to your appointment, please call 785-229-3530 as soon as you know you will be unable to make it. The Health Department will re-schedule your vaccine. Each day of vaccine clinics, the Health Department has a “waiting list” to ensure no doses of the vaccine are wasted.
Those scheduled to receive a second dose – if you cannot make it to your appointment, there is a chance you will not receive your second dose. Once the vial is punctured those doses must be thrown out within 6 hours. Your name will be put on a wait list and you will receive a call if someone else does not show up for their second dose.
Persons who are scheduled to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and simply do not show up, make the Health Departments job of scheduling and organizing vaccine clinics even more complicated. Please call 785-229-3530 if you are unable to make your scheduled appointment time.
