Job Opening Announcement: Registered Nurse

Position Title:     Registered Nurse
Department:        Health Department

Position Summary:

This is a general Public Health nursing position with work involving direct nursing services for clients in the clinical setting as well as general work in assessment, implementation, and evaluation of public health in the community. Duties may include immunizations, WIC, child care licensing, Communicable Disease testing, tracking/investigation, and treatment, child health and adult health nursing programs including family planning. Work is performed with professional independence in accordance with established County and department policies, protocols, and procedures.  Registered Nurse is supervised by the Director or Assistant Director.


Franklin County participates in the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS & KP&F).

Base Rate:  $21.69 per hour depending on qualifications

Hours:  Generally, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday.  Some evening and/or Saturdays may be required.

Additional Information:     

          Registered Nurse degree from certified college or university required.  A valid driver’s license is required.

          Administers immunizations appropriate to individual history and ACIP guidelines or under direct order by a physician. Follows Vaccine for Children and Kansas Department of Health and Environment policies for use of vaccine.

          Provides health education regarding communicable disease, family planning, and sexually transmitted disease to clients and the general public.

          Participates in ongoing quality improvement and performance management activities with the department.

          Conducts education and outreach clinics and health fairs, may be a member of community efforts in planning, and prevention;

          Provides comprehensive case management, which may include collaborating with other agencies.

          Follows safety practices and sanitary procedures; proper lifting techniques; rules, regulations, and procedures to properly dispose of cleaning fluids, and chemicals.

          Ability to establish and to maintain effective working relationships with all employees, officials, and the public and to communicate effectively verbally or in writing is required.


          Franklin County conducts background checks and drug screenings on all potential candidates.
