Press Release 02/04/2019 -- Public Works Department

February 4, 2019

Press Release:

The wet January weather events combined with this past weekend’s warm temperatures are contributing to the frost boil issues on many of our secondary roads in Franklin County.  Frost boils occur when moisture in the subgrade material freezes and expands causing voids under the surface. When temperatures rise, the surface course collapses into the soft subgrade. When this occurs, the roads become difficult and dangerous to travel.

Our Road & Bridge Division will be addressing the troubled areas as quickly as possible. We ask that the public drive carefully and avoid the following areas if possible: 2400 block of Delaware Road, 4600 block of Kentucky Road, 1600 block of Rock Creek Road and the 2500 block of Kingman Road.

We will continue to evaluate roads across the county and we may need to close some of the roads until temporary repairs can be completed.

Please contact the Public Works Department at 785-229-3550 to report road issues.
