RESOLUTION NO. 05-94
A RESOLUTION INCREASING THE TAX LEVY FOR THE SUPERVISION AND CURATION OF A HISTORICAL COLLECTION FOR FRANKLIN COUNTY
WHEREAS, under K.S.A. 19-2651, the Board of County Commissioners may levy an annual tax to support a local historical society, and;
WHEREAS, in 1961 the Board of County Commissioners created a tax levy of one tenth of a mill to finance and support the efforts of the Franklin County Historical Society to act as curator and supervisor of the collection of records, documents and other articles of historical value or interest, and;
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Franklin County, Kansas, finds the expansion of that levy is necessary to maintain the level of services provided by the Franklin County Historical Society and would be of historical and educational value:
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
BY
THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF FRANKLIN COUNTY:
The annual levy of one tenth of one mill paid to the Franklin County Historical Society to act as curator and supervisor of the collection of records, documents and other articles of historical value or interest shall be increased to an amount not to exceed one half of one mill beginning November 2, 2005.
This resolution shall be published in The Ottawa Herald, an official newspaper in Franklin County, Kansas, once each week for two consecutive weeks. This resolution shall take effect on the 12th day of September, 2005.
If a petition in opposition to the tax levy, signed by not less than 10% of the qualified electors of Franklin County shall be filed with the County Election Officer within forty (40) days after the final publication of this resolution, then the levy shall not be made unless first approved at a question submitted election either called for that purpose or at the next general election.
