Who works in Public Health?

Clinical services of Franklin County Health Department are provided by Registered Nurses and our ARNP.

Community partners are an essential part of public health.  We work with environmental experts locally and at the state.  Private medical providers and the hospital help identify and control disease and many organizations provide important education and programs.

Ten Essential Services of Public Health:

  2. Diagnose and investigate health problems in the community

  3. Inform, educate, and empower people about health issues

  4. Mobilize community partnerships to identify and solve health problems

  5. Develop policies and plans that support individual and community health  efforts

  7. Link people to needed personal health services and ensure the provision of health care when otherwise unavailable

Emergency Preparedness

The health department plans and trains for emergencies and situations that impact our community’s health.  This includes infectious disease outbreaks, such as H1N1 influenza or salmonella.  Floods and other natural disasters have the potential to contaminate food and water sources and create disease vector issues.

Volunteers (medical and non-medical) are always needed for our emergency preparedness efforts, including our mass vaccination clinics.  If you would like to volunteer, please call us.  We appreciate everyone’s assistance.

What do Services Cost?

Our services are supported by state and federal grants and by county funds allowing us to keep costs low.  Family Planning fees are on a sliding scale.  Immunizations for children without insurance or without immunization coverage are provided by the Vaccine for Children (VFC) program so that only a minimal administration fee is charged.

Acute care fees start at $20.00.  Many services are free of charge.
