All services are provided at the Franklin County Health Department Clinic in Ottawa, Kansas. Special clinics at alternative sites will be announced prior to the service being offered. Most procedures have fees involved, however, no one will be turned away for inability to pay. Please call ahead to ask about charges and payment plans.

Disease Control services include Tuberculin Skin tests, consultations, communicable disease investigation, and communicable disease prevention education. Please contact the Health Department for more information. The Health Department offers confidential and anonymous HIV counseling and testing. Education concerning HIV infection, transmission and prevention is also available upon request. Tests take approximately two weeks for results and can only be revealed in person to the tested individual. Testing is available by appointment only. Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD): The Health Department offers confidential testing and treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). Counseling and education are also available upon request. Hepatitis A and B vaccinations are available to those who are eligible. Most test results take anywhere from 7 to 10 days. Please contact the Health Department for more information or to schedule an appointment. Family planning services provide individuals with the information and means to exercise personal choice in determining the number and spacing of children. Services are confidential and take up to one week for test results. Family planning exams are available by appointment only and include:
Child Health Assessments are available at the Health Department by appointment only. Services include physical assessments, including vision and hearing screening; developmental evaluations; laboratory tests; immunizations; and counseling on nutrition, health and safety. Those eligible for child health assessments are children through age 5 or first time Kansas school entrants through age 8. Healthwave children up to age 19 and Medicaid children up to age 21. The health department does not provide sports physicals, consult your healthcare provider for acceptable locations. Women, Infants, and Children (WIC): WIC is intended for pregnant and nursing women, infants and children up to age 5 who are determined to be at nutritional risk and meet specific income guidelines. WIC provides these mothers with certain tools and benefits that helps give nutritional support, including; nutritious foods, nutrition education, regular assessments, and breastfeeding support. WIC visits are available by appointment only. Applicants will receive confirmation of qualification during first appointment. Benefits also begin at first appointment. Please contact the Health Department for more information. The main goal of the Child Care Licensing Program is to help protect the health, safety, and welfare of children in care away from their own homes. Applications are available at the Health Department. Temporary licenses are provided upon completion, although, a valid license will take 60 to 90 days to obtain. Those enrolled in the child care licensing program will be subject to an initial onsite inspection of the house/facility where children will be cared for. Annual visits are to be expected along with inspection for any complaints received. For more information or to set-up a consultation please contact the Health Department. Appointments are not necessary. If you are already a licensed childcare provider and are moving please contact the Health Department as soon as possible in order to remain certified. Health Screening for People Over 60: The Franklin County Health Department provides the following services for individuals over the age of 60.
Community Health Promotion and Education: The Health Department staff develops and provides presentations on health promotion and prevention topics. For information consult the Health Department. The Environmental Health staff enforces environmental health and safety regulations in Franklin County for the benefit of all residents and to protect environmental quality. The Environmental Health Department provides onsite sewage management system permits and inspections. Sewage hauling equipment permits and inspections. They provide private water supply (well) permits and inspections along with sample collections and testing information on well water systems.
