FRANKLIN COUNTY

Franklin County, Kansas was established in 1855 and named in honor of the legendary Benjamin Franklin. The county is governed by a Board of County Commissioners/County Administrator form of government. In 1998 Franklin County broke the Kansas tradition by increasing the number of County Commissioners from three to five. Six years later the voters of Franklin County established the position of County Administrator. The changes in Franklin County government reflect the progressive attitudes of Franklin County citizens and the 150 years of successfully guiding the County into the future.

There are seventeen County departments providing the traditional county services of law enforcement and the maintenance and construction of roads and bridges to dealing with more contemporary public issues of environmental management, recycling, utilities, planning and urban residential development in a rural setting. Additionally, the county supports a number of affiliated organizations in order to bring better service to the community.

Services supported, directly or indirectly, include Ransom Memorial Hospital, on the top 100 community hospitals in the United States; Franklin County Mental Health Clinic providing exceptional services to adults and children; programs and services for the elderly, and other services reflecting the values of a caring community.

Scheduled maintenance of the Franklin County Annex parking lot set to begin.

The repairs and resurfacing of the Franklin County Annex parking lot is set to begin July 24, 2010. The project will be completed in two Phases and will require the parking lot to be closed the following days and times:

Phase I – Milling and Temporary Striping

Closed: Friday, July 23, 2010 @ 7:00 p.m.
Reopen: Monday, July 26, 2010 @ 6:00 a.m.

Phase II – Resurfacing and Striping

Closed: Friday, July 30, 2010 @ 7:00 p.m.
Reopen: Monday, August 2, 2010 @ 6:00 a.m.

There will be limited parking available at the north end of the parking lot for tenants open for business on Saturday, July 24, 2010 and Saturday, July 31, 2010. Parking will be available in the north end from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. both Saturdays. All vehicles must be removed from the north parking lot by 1:00 p.m. on those Saturdays.

Any vehicles in the south end of the parking lot after 7:00 p.m. on Friday or in the north end of the parking lot after 1:00 p.m. on Saturday will be towed, at the owner’s expense, in order to allow the necessary work to be completed.
