PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Franklin County Attorney Brandon Jones filed a criminal complaint against Mark Samsel, age 36 of Wellsville, Kansas on Monday, May 17, 2021. The complaint, which is attached, charges Samsel with 3 counts of misdemeanor battery for an incident that occurred at Wellsville High School on April 28, 2021. Samsel’s first appearance in court is scheduled for May 19, 2021, at 8:30 AM in front of Franklin County District Court Magistrate Judge Kevin Kimball. Due to ongoing Covid restrictions, the hearing will be conducted via Zoom and will be streamed on the court’s YouTube channel for the public to view. Misdemeanor battery carries a penalty of up to 6 months in the county jail and/or up to a $1,000 fine. As with all criminal defendants, Samsel is presumed innocent until otherwise proven guilty and convicted in a court of law.
