COVID-19 Vaccine - Frequently Asked Questions

Current vaccine status:

The Franklin County Health Department continues to administer COVID-19 vaccines to those who wish to receive it. If you would like to make an appointment to receive a vaccine, call (785)229-3530.

**As a reminder, these numbers only reflect vaccines administered by the Franklin County Health Department.**

Update: 04.13.21

Franklin County has received 11,000 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and 500 doses of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) Vaccine. As of this evening, 9,440 total doses of the vaccine have been administered. The Health Department is scheduled to administer 340 additional 1^st doses this week, as well as 260 2^nd doses. 

Franklin County has scheduled an appointment for everyone who has “opted-in” to get the vaccine. The Health Department is currently scheduling appointments for any individual over the age of 18 who would like to receive the vaccine. If you are unable to make it to your scheduled vaccine appointment, please call 785-229-3530 ASAP so that the Health Department can re-allocate your dose and re-schedule your appointment.

Update - 04.05.21

Franklin County has received 9,500 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and 300 doses of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) Vaccine. As of this today, April 5th, 8,285 total doses of the vaccine have been administered. The Health Department will be administering 550 additional 1^st doses this week, as well as 300 2^nd doses. 

Franklin County is currently scheduling appointments for any individual over the age of 16 who would like to receive the vaccine. If you have not already and would like to receive the vaccine, please go to http://www.franklincoks.org/933/COVID19 and click on Vaccine Opt-In.

If you are unable to make it to your scheduled vaccine appointment, please call 785-229-3530 ASAP so that the Health Department can re-allocate your dose and re-schedule your appointment. 

Persons who previously signed-up to receive the vaccine in Franklin County but have since received the vaccine from another entity, please email kbrady@franklincoks.org to be removed from the vaccine list. This will save the Health Department many phone calls!

Update 03.29.21

Franklin County has received 8,500 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and 200 doses of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine. As of the end of day today, 7,515 total doses of the vaccine have been administered. The Health Department will be administering 200 additional 1^st doses this week, as well as 300 2^nd doses. 

Beginning today, March 29, 2021 the State of Kansas has allowed anyone over the age of 16 to receive the vaccine. Franklin County is now prioritizing based on age. The Health Department is currently making appointments for individuals born in 1960. Franklin County residents who would like to get on a list to receive the vaccine when it becomes available to them based on age and medical conditions, should go to http://www.franklincoks.org/933/COVID19 and click on Vaccine Opt-In.

As a reminder, Franklin County still does not know when, and/or the amount of vaccines that will be received at any given time. The Health Department is eagerly expecting to receive 700 1st doses of Moderna soon, to be administered next week.

Franklin County has received 7,600 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and 200 doses of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) Vaccine. As of this morning, 6,730 total doses of the vaccine have been administered. The Health Department will be administering 320 additional 1^st doses this week, as well as 410 2^nd doses. 

Franklin County is currently scheduling appointments for Phase 2, 3 and 4 individuals. Those who qualify for the vaccine in Phases 3 & 4 (underlying medical conditions) are being prioritized by age (oldest to youngest).

Franklin County has received 6,800 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and 200 doses of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) Vaccine. As of this morning, 5,775 total doses of the vaccine have been administered. The Health Department will be administering 260 additional 1^st doses this week, as well as 400 2^nd doses. 

Franklin County is currently scheduling appointments for Phase 2 individuals. Today, Governor Laura Kelly announced that Kansas Counties can move into Phase 3 and 4 vaccinations on March 22, 2021. More information coming soon!

Franklin County has received 5,900 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and has administered 4,580 doses. The Health Department will be administering 300 additional 1^st doses this week, as well as 400 2^nd doses. 

Franklin County is still in Phase 2 of the Kansas Vaccine Prioritization Plan. Appointments are currently being scheduled for Franklin County K-12 faculty and staff. Those under age 65 cannot be vaccinated until Kansas moves into Phase 3 of the Vaccine Prioritization Plan.

Franklin County has received 5,100 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and has administered 3,870 doses. The Health Department will be administering 300 additional 1^st doses this week as well as 300 2^nd doses.

Franklin County has received 4300 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and has administered 3350 doses. The Health Department will be administering 270 additional 1^st doses this week as well as 150 2^nd doses. Appointments are currently being scheduled for individuals born in mid1955. Franklin County has received 3600 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and has administered 2480 doses. The Health Department will be administering 430 additional 1^st doses this week as well as 290 2^nd doses. Appointments are currently being scheduled for individuals born in mid 1950. The Health Department will be administering 530 additional 1^st doses this week as well as 520 2^nd doses. Appointments are currently being scheduled for individuals born in late 1946. Franklin County has received 1820 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and has administered 1090 of those doses. The Health Department will be administering 200 additional doses this week and is currently scheduling appointments for individuals born in late 1942. Update 01.25.21

Franklin County has received 1520 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and has administered 920 of those doses. 

1^st dose vaccinations (900):

Update: 01.18.21

Update 01.11.21:

Franklin County has received a second allocation of COVID-19 vaccinations, this allotment from the Health Partnership Clinic. These vaccines are only to be used for Phase 1 individuals per the State of Kansas guidelines. As a reminder, Franklin County must follow the guidelines set in place by the State of Kansas for administering the vaccine and at this time cannot move to Phase 2 until the State allows.

Phase 1 has been a community-wide effort. As previously mentioned, AdventHealth Ottawa received their own allotment of doses for their staff.  Local long-term care and senior living residences received doses through a nationwide contract with CVS, Walgreens and the State. 

As shown in the chart – Franklin County recently received 500 doses of the vaccine. These doses will be used to vaccinate all other Health Care Associated Workers (HCAW) in the County. This includes but is not limited to: medical offices, dental offices, optometric offices, home-health workers and hospice workers. The Health Department expects to have administered all 250 - 1^st doses by the end of this week. The remaining doses will be allocated for Phase 1 – 2^nd doses. 

We know there are several individuals anxiously awaiting their vaccination. At this time, doses of the vaccine are only available in limited quantities from the Federal Government. As doses become more widely available the State of Kansas will be able to move into Phase 2. Franklin County is unsure when and how many vaccinations they will receive from the State at any given time. 

State of Kansas Vaccine Guidelines

The COVID-19 vaccine has reached Franklin County and administration of the vaccine has began. Franklin County must follow the State of Kansas’ phased approach to administer the vaccine. The phases are as follows:  

Phase 1 - 

• Healthcare workers
• Residents or patients in long-term care (LTC), senior housing, or LTC-supported independent living
• Workers critical to pandemic response continuity
  

Phase 2 - 

• Persons aged 65+
• Congregate Settings
• High-contact critical workers 

Phase 3 -

• Aged 16-64 with severe medical risks
• Other critical workers

Phase 4 -

• Aged 16-64 with other medical risks

Phase 5 -

• Rest of the population (16 years +)
• Children (subject to further research on Vaccine risks and effectiveness for children)
